Stephen Lagattuta is a contemporary sculptor and painter working primarily in the style of impressionism. Laguttuta, whose work is billed “Art in the Woods,” has a studio, foundry and home in the middle of 20 acres of trees in southwestern Michigan. He creates objects inspired by the ironies of life and the beauty and peace of his natural surroundings.
The artist completes every step of the sculpting process himself, which extends from concept and creation to the bronze pour. As both a painter and sculptor Lagattuta uses both disciplines in his work, viewing his sculpture as three-dimensional paintings.
